The Nature Club was founded by parents Sandra Acosta and Noe Ramirez in September 2022. As part of MLK Jr. Day of Service 2020, parents, staff, and community dug out the ornamental hedges in front of the school to replace them with Ca native plants and mulched trees on the playground. UC Master Gardeners Jeff Rowe and Lee White helped facilitate this project. Lee is a Lafayette Nature Club teacher and board member.
Nature Club meetups are every 2nd Wednesday at 8:00am in front of the Ca native plant habitat. Meetups are open to students, parents, families, staff and community. At meetups, environmental/sustainable groups from in and around the city present lessons and/or activities. Club members also tend the plant habitat and clean-up around the school. The Nature Club participates in the Harvest Festival, organizes the American Indian Heritage Month Celebration, and the Everyday is Earth Day Festival. They collaborate with the School Zone Safety Group during Walk to School Week.
We acknowledge, with respect, that our outdoor classroom is on Tongva land.
The Nature Club is committed to building leadership in parents and students. Student engagement in all organized school campaigns, festivals and events is strongly encouraged.
